Our Products

At SMC Construction, Inc., your wish is our command. However, if you are new to the siding replacement process, we are happy to help. We will always provide good, better, and best options for you to choose from. These options will depend on your unique home, your budget, and your wants and needs.

One of the main decisions that you will need to make during the siding replacement process is the product you use. There are three popular types of siding: vinyl, Hardie, and LP Smartside. Let’s look at the pros and cons of each of these products.

Vinyl siding is the least expensive and, therefore, one of the most popular sidings on the market. It is made from PVC and comes in seemingly infinite colors and styles. Vinyl siding is also extremely easy to maintain and relatively easy to install.

However, vinyl’s PVC construction is not environmentally friendly. This type of siding is also prone to weather damage and begins to look shabby relatively quickly. You will likely need to replace your vinyl siding more often than you would siding made from other materials.

Hardie siding is made from a blend of cement, sand, and cellulose. It is a highly durable and aesthetic choice. Importantly, it can mimic the appearance of wood and, with proper maintenance, last 30-50 years. Plus, it is designed to withstand even the most extreme weather.

As a downside, Hardie siding can be expensive. It is also heavy and so more labor-intensive to install. Finally, you will need to paint it periodically, or it will lose its aesthetic appeal.

A final type of siding we offer at SMC Construction, Inc., is LP Smartside. This siding is engineered wood. It is constructed from wood strands coated with a resin binder and compressed to create a strong board. It is also treated with a zinc borate compound for enhanced durability.

LP Smartside siding is becoming increasingly popular because it resembles natural wood, is durable, and is very lightweight. This type of siding is less expensive than Hardie siding, but it will still cost more than vinyl. LP Smartside siding also needs regular maintenance and occasional painting to keep its appearance pristine.

Our Process

At SMC Construction, Inc., we have years of experience to ensure your siding project is completed correctly the first time. Let us guide you to the top siding choices for your home in the Minneapolis and St. Paul metropolitan areas.

When you work with SMC Construction, Inc., you can expect the following process for your project.

Every project with SMC Construction, Inc. begins with a consultation. During this time, one of our team members will meet at your home to discuss the project in person. They will review your wants and needs, answer your questions, and take measurements. This step lets us determine if we are a good fit for your project.

We will never push a certain product or material on you. Instead, we begin all of our consultations with a series of questions designed to ensure we help you find the exact right siding for your home. These questions may include the following:

  • How long do you plan on living in the home?
  • What are your maintenance requirements?
  • What are your warranty needs?
When we have mutually decided to move forward with the process, our team will meet to create your custom proposal. At SMC Construction, Inc., we do not use form proposals. Instead, we customize each proposal to fit the specifics of each project.

When your proposal is ready, you will receive a notification. You can then view it in our online portal. You can request unlimited changes to ensure the proposal reflects what you want for your project.

Once you accept the proposal, the project will begin in earnest. We always start our projects by ordering the necessary materials and obtaining permits. We will also collaborate with you to schedule your siding installation.

Throughout the project, you will receive updates in our online portal. You can also use the portal to make payments and ask questions or express concerns.

Every project ends with our team scheduling and receiving the necessary inspections. We work with your city’s inspectors to ensure the installation is safe and secure.

Once the inspections are complete, we will go on a final walk-through with you. You will not need to scale the side of your home to see the new siding up close. However, we will discuss the installation, show you pictures of the new siding, and discuss our warranty. If you have any final questions or concerns, this is the moment to bring those to our attention.

The Cost

The price of siding depends on many factors. The materials you select and the complexity of your home will determine the project’s overall cost.

Without taking stock of your unique home, it is impossible to provide an accurate quote for siding replacement. However, you should at least plan on budgeting between $550 and $1,800 per 100 sq. ft. installed for your new siding.
